I have been asked “what was the smallest item we have ever shot?”
They were computer chips measuring 1.5MM wide for an LED company named Luminus out of Sunnyvale CA.
Other Small and Micro Products:
In this blog post, we’ll explore the fascinating world of small and micro product photography, specifically for Luminus, an industry leader in LED lighting technology.
The Importance of Small and Micro Product Photography
Micro product photography is a critical aspect of promoting small products like computer chips, and we’ll discuss the challenges and techniques involved in capturing these products in stunning detail.
The LED industry is a rapidly growing sector with a wide range of applications, including automotive lighting, televisions, and computer displays. Luminus is a top player in this industry, developing high-quality LED lighting solutions for a variety of industries. Micro product photography is crucial for promoting small products like computer chips and LED components, allowing customers to see the intricate details and quality of the product.
Challenges and Techniques
Shooting micro product photography can be challenging, but with the right equipment and preparation, it can result in stunning, high-quality images. The Luminus assignment required us to shoot micro product photography of several computer chips, including the CBT-90, SST-20, and PT-121. The client’s goal was to showcase the quality and precision of these components and use the images for marketing and promotional purposes. We used a combination of lighting, a macro lens, and a lightbox setup to capture the details of each chip accurately. One of the main challenges was capturing the correct lighting for the reflective surface of the chips. We overcame this by experimenting with different angles and settings until we achieved the desired result.
Results and Feedback
The final images of the computer chips were stunning, showcasing the intricate details of each component. The client was thrilled with the images and provided positive feedback, noting the high level of detail and quality captured in each shot. We made some minor adjustments based on the client’s feedback, such as adjusting the lighting angle on a few shots to better highlight specific features.
Micro product photography is a fascinating and challenging aspect of commercial photography, requiring specific equipment, techniques, and attention to detail. We hope this blog post has provided some insight into the world of micro product photography and how it can be used to showcase small products like computer chips.
